چکیده
The use of organic solvents in the chemical industry for gas-liquid absorption or liquid-liquid extraction operations is still unavoidable. search “greener” to replace fossil-based counterparts a challenge scientific community. Biocompatible ionic liquids (bio-ILs) emerged as sustainable approach development greener processes. In this work, bio-ILs based on choline common cation are evaluated promising typical industrial separation processes such gas (refrigerants, CO2, H2S, NH3, acetone) and (hydrocarbon separations, denitrogenation, desulfurization, recovery value-added compounds and/or contaminants from aqueous streams) by means COSMO-RS method. Some show competitive behavior compared benchmark ILs all solutes evaluated. None predicted form two liquid phases solutions, so future work should be conducted finding hydrophobic perform these separations. On other hand, hydrocarbon separations results terms selectivities (benzoate-based) partition coefficients (bicarbonate-based) sulfolane previously tested.

Evaluation of COSMO-RS for the prediction of LLE and VLE of alcohols + ionic liquids
The huge number of possible combinations of binary mixtures of alcohols and ionic liquids (ILs) make the exhaustive measurement of all these ystems impracticable requiring the use of a predictive model for their study. In this work, the predictive capability of COSMO-RS, a model based n unimolecular quantum chemistry calculations, was evaluated for the description of the liquid–liquid equilibri...
متن کاملStudy of Ionic Liquids as Entrainers for the Separation of Methyl Acetate−Methanol and Ethyl Acetate−Ethanol Systems Using the COSMO-RS Model
The separation of the nonaqueous azeotropic systems methyl acetate−methanol and ethyl acetate−ethanol was investigated with 13 cations and 27 anions as entrainers to identify suitable ionic liquids using the COSMO-RS model. It is observed that the cations best suited are imidazolium > pyridinium > methyl pyrrolidinium > octyl quinolinium. The lengthening of the alkyl chain of cations was also s...
متن کاملIonic Liquids in Separation Techniques
Recently, ionic liquids (ILs) have gained in popularity as unique solvents in different areas of separation techniques. Owing to tunable properties which can be selected by choosing appropriate cationic or anionic constituents, they can be applied in chromatographic and electro-chromatographic methods as mobile phase or stationary phase modifiers or in sample preparations processes as new extra...
متن کاملIonic liquids--promising but challenging solvents for homogeneous derivatization of cellulose.
In the past decade, ionic liquids (ILs) have received enormous interest as solvents for cellulose. They have been studied intensively for fractionation and biorefining of lignocellulosic biomass, for dissolution of the polysaccharide, for preparation of cellulosic fibers, and in particular as reaction media for the homogeneous preparation of highly engineered polysaccharide derivatives. ILs sho...
متن کاملIonic liquids. Green solvents for the future*
Ionic liquids, being composed entirely of ions, were once mainly of interest to electrochemists. Recently, however, it has become apparent that, inter alia, their lack of measurable vapor pressure characterizes them as green solvents, and that a wide range of chemical reactions (reviewed here) can be performed in them.
